The Stripping Away

The storm’s past debris strews the locust-eaten years.
I looked at the destruction, the mess and said,
“Lord, where was the fullness of life,
the abundance of life You promised, then?”
And He said,
“In the raging of the storm, the roar of the wind,
the might of the lashing rain –
there was My Love in discipline –
My Passion for you.”

The storm’s past debris strews the locust-eaten years.
I looked at the waste, the seeming waste, and said,
“Lord, where was the fullness of life,
the abundance of life You promised, then?”
And He said,
“In the stripping away, the desert waste, the drought –
There was My Love in discipline –
My Passion for you –
to teach you to love Me – only Me –
to thirst for me and find true quenching –
to see the treasure blossoming in the desert,
to let you learn to know Me
in undivided communion
that I might touch
your heart.”

And I looked with His Eyes
at the seeming waste and destruction
and saw the fullness,
His fullness and abundance there
growing and growing even as I looked.
